Take Charge of Your Own Safety! - the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the risk of potential violence in the job
  2. Understand general and personal safety procedures
  3. Know how to respond to escalating violence
  4. Recognize the risks of working with potentially violent patients
  5. Know the purpose and use of restraints
  6. Be aware of specific facility Policies & Procedures to avoid harm
  7. Understand how we report incidents
  8. Know where violence resources are available
  9. Be familiar with the facility Workplace Violence Plan

Learning objectives based on RCW 49.19 requirements.

1. Staff must understand all of the risks of WPV they are exposed to arriving or leaving the premises or during their workday. Staff in jobs that require outside visits must be able to identify the WPV risks including transportation. These risks should be identified and documented during your WPV risk assessment. This training template should be modified to include additional risks not already included.

2.Overall aspects of WPV and general safety related procedures to follow for the organization as well as personal safety.

3. Certain types of violence can be identified early on and responded to before they reach a higher level requiring physical intervention.

4.Risks identified relate to your client base.

5. When and how restraints can be used and cannot be used.

6. Awareness of any security, personal safety, or violence related policies or procedures currently existing whether drafted for this plan or not.

7. Those incidents involving WPV as defined in this program.

8. Physical documents containing further information on WPV, or website references.

9. Staff must understand this plan.
